A Warm Welcome: Concordia Offers Real-World Experience to UniSQ Student
Concordia welcomed a new face to the College this week. Third-year communications student from the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), Gabrielle Leahy, has joined the school’s marketing team for a seven-week internship as she approaches the final stages of her degree. Set to graduate in August, Gabby says the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a school environment is a capstone for her studies.
“I’m so excited to be here … I think this is one of the schools setting the example in school marketing. There’s a lot I can learn from the team,” Gabby said.
Throughout the placement, Gabby will be undertaking a range of marketing tasks including photography, content creation, and newsletter writing.
“I’ll be assisting the team with daily operations and doing a bit of everything. I’m sure you’ll see me running around campus with a camera at some point!” she laughed.
Gabby was drawn to the field of marketing for its adaptability and broad scope.
“It’s something that touches every industry. It’s dynamic and always changing, so there’s always something to learn,” she said.
With a particular interest in branding and digital analytics, she views the internship as an opportunity to explore different areas of the profession and build practical skills.
“It’s one thing to learn the theory, but to actually put it into practice is a whole other skill,” she said.
The experience of working alongside experienced staff is another aspect Gabby is looking forward to.
“I want to get a feel for how the team does things here and really take on every experience I can. I know Belinda and Mariette have a lot of expertise, so I hope to learn from them,” she said.
Her first impressions of the College have been overwhelmingly positive.
“Everyone has been so warm and welcoming. It’s such a nurturing environment, and it’s clear how dedicated the staff are, not just to their roles but to the students and the wider community.”
