Junior College

Concordia Lutheran College’s Junior College provides a nurturing and innovative environment for students in Kindy to Year 6. Establishing the foundations for life-long learning is crucial in the early years and this plays an important part in setting our students up for success throughout their schooling. Our two campuses will combine towards 2026 when our new state-of-the-art, purpose-built Junior Campus facility will be opened on our Stephen Street Campus.

The junior years are the basis for developing strong relationships between adults and students, and our dedicated team of teachers strive to deliver a balanced curriculum that enables our students to become successful learners.

Students in our Junior years are provided with learning experiences that recognise the importance of their academic development as well as their physical, social and emotional development.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is built on a strong foundation of literacy and numeracy skills. We believe that children learn best when they are engaged in what they are learning. In our rapidly changing world, our students benefit from a curriculum that focuses on developing 21st Century competencies. The skills of critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity are all heavily embedded in our units as we strive to create students who are ready to thrive in an ever-changing environment.

Our Junior College teachers use the practices of John Hattie’s Visible Learning which enables them to be transparent with the students about what they are learning and why they are learning. Students are able to articulate where they are on their learning journey, and this is also shared with parents on a daily basis through the use of the digital platform Seesaw. With access to Seesaw, parents are able to connect to their child’s journal to participate in their child’s learning, see their work and celebrate their progress.

Through Project Based Learning (PBL), students at Concordia actively engage in real-world projects tailored to their interests, allowing them to solve meaningful problems. PBL empowers students to apply their academic knowledge in practical scenarios, fostering interactions with community members and demonstrating the tangible impact of their work.

Technology

Digital technologies are crucial in today’s tech-driven world. It’s imperative to empower students with the skills and knowledge for safe and effective use of digital tools alongside traditional hands-on learning experiences. At Concordia, all Prep – Year 2 students receive an iPad and our Years 3-6 students receive a laptop. These devices offer the students mobility, flexibility, and alternative methods of learning. These devices serve various purposes:

  • As a learning aid and resource tool.
  • For creation, innovation, design and showcasing learning through diverse digital media.
  • To equip students with digital literacy that is essential to their future.

STEM

Embedding STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) into our curriculum is vital for preparing students for the challenges of the modern world. By integrating STEM principles across all subjects, we foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills and creativity. With a dedicated STEM teacher, we can inspire curiosity, ignite passion for inquiry and cultivate a culture of innovation among our students.

Wellbeing

At Concordia, student wellbeing is paramount, with a holistic approach that values the education of the whole child.  Recognising that nurturing not only academic but also social, emotional, and physical development is crucial. Concordia prioritises intentional wellbeing lessons, especially at the Junior College level. These lessons instil in students the principles of resilience, empathy, and self-awareness, fostering a growth mindset that propels them forward in both their academic pursuits and personal growth. By equipping students with the tools to navigate challenge with optimism and perseverance, Concordia cultivates a supportive environment where students thrive academically and flourish as well-rounded individuals.

We are so happy with the College and are blown away at the beautiful sense of community.
