Junior College
At Concordia's Junior College, children don't just learn — they belong. Our Prep to Year 6 students are now together in one vibrant, purpose-built home on the Stephen Street Campus, where innovative teaching, genuine pastoral care, and a strong sense of community come together to give every child the very best start, and the adventure begins the moment they walk through the door.
Step into a school where your child belongs to something bigger than a classroom. Our Junior College, for Prep to Year 6 students, is now located in our brand-new purpose-built facilities on the Stephen Street Campus, with an entrance from South Street.
Designed to ignite curiosity and inspire confidence, our Junior College combines Concordia's trusted tradition of care and academic excellence with innovative learning spaces and future-focused teaching. Here, every child is fully known, genuinely valued, and given every opportunity to thrive.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is built on a strong foundation of literacy and numeracy, designed for the rapidly changing world our students are growing up in. We believe children learn best when they are genuinely engaged, so we build units of work that are rich, relevant, and purposeful.
Critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity are woven through everything we teach. Our teachers use the practices of John Hattie's Visible Learning, ensuring students always know what they are learning and why. Progress is shared with families daily through Seesaw, giving parents a real window into their child's learning journey.
Through Project-Based Learning, students actively engage in real-world projects tailored to their interests, solving meaningful problems and connecting their learning to the wider community.
Technology
Digital technologies are an essential part of life at Concordia. All Prep to Year 2 students receive an iPad, and Years 3 to 6 students receive a laptop. These devices support learning as a resource tool, as a platform for creation, innovation and design, and as a foundation for the digital literacy our students will carry into their futures.
STEM
Embedding STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics — across our curriculum prepares students for the challenges of the modern world. With a dedicated STEM teacher, we inspire curiosity, encourage inquiry, and cultivate a genuine culture of innovation. Concordia's Hume Street Kindergarten is a certified Little Scientists House, the only one in the wider Darling Downs region, reflecting our commitment to early STEM education.
Wellbeing
At Concordia, student wellbeing is paramount, with a holistic approach that values the education of the whole child. Recognising that nurturing not only academic but also social, emotional, and physical development is crucial. Concordia prioritises intentional wellbeing lessons, especially at the Junior College level. These lessons instil in students the principles of resilience, empathy, and self-awareness, fostering a growth mindset that propels them forward in both their academic pursuits and personal growth. By equipping students with the tools to navigate challenges with optimism and perseverance, Concordia cultivates a supportive environment where students thrive academically and flourish as well-rounded individuals.
