BOARDING

Home away from home — and we mean it. Concordia has welcomed boarding students since 1946, and that depth of experience shows in everything we do. Our boarding community brings together students from across Queensland, interstate, and overseas, creating a close-knit family environment where lifelong friendships are formed and every student is genuinely known and cared for.

We love the convenience that Concordia Boarding provides for out-of-towners. Kids don’t get exhausted from having to catch buses for long distances. The students in boarding are all likeminded, and Concordia provides great opportunities.

Meet our 2026 Boarding Captains

Each year Concordia's boarding community is represented by a Boarding Captain from each of our boarding houses. These young leaders ensure our boarders are represented with high regard within the College community.

In 2026, Concordia Boarding is being exceptionally represented by Boarding Captains Bella Clark and Henry Thorne.

Meet our Boarding Coordinator

Mrs Maureen Taurima lives on-site within the boarding precinct, overseeing both Giabal House for our female boarders and Temme House for our male boarders.

With more than 30 years of boarding experience across New Zealand, the Torres Strait and Australia, Maureen brings exceptional care, structure and warmth to the role.

She leads a dedicated team of residential staff who ensure every boarder enjoys a holistic experience, academically supported, pastorally cared for, and actively engaged in College life.

Concordia Lutheran College is a proud member of the Australian Boarding Schools Association.

Learning in Boarding

Boarding at Concordia is designed to help students grow in their studies, in their independence, and in their character. Our Learning in Boarding model gives students the support and structure they need to truly excel.

The College Library at our Stephen Street Campus is open until 4.30pm Monday to Thursday during term time, with access to our experienced teacher-librarian and targeted tutorials. Evening study is compulsory and supported by our residential tutors, who are available both in formal prep sessions and outside of study periods. Our goal is a culture of genuine academic growth embedded in the rhythm of boarding life.

Residence

Female boarders reside in Giabal House and male boarders in Temme House, both located within our Stephen Street Campus. Each house features a fully equipped kitchenette, shared recreation room with TV, lounges, beanbags, pool and table tennis tables, a genuine home base for students to relax, connect and recharge.

Weekday meals are served in the dining room, with a more relaxed breakfast and lunch arrangement in the dorms on weekends. Boarders receive six meal options daily, breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper, with a quality balanced menu that includes a salad bar, hot food options, and takeaway choices to suit busy schedules.

Boarder Activity Program

Our boarding team works hard to ensure life outside the classroom is just as rich as life inside it. Activities include ten-pin bowling, cinema nights, disco evenings, day trips to Sea World and Movie World, shopping trips to Grand Central and camping adventures. These shared experiences are the foundation of the friendships and memories that last long after graduation.

Not sure if boarding is right for your family? Join us for a Boarder Experience Weekend and let your child see it for themselves.

What's to eat?

Boarding students receive six options per day - breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and supper. There are a range of healthy options available to students including a salad bar as well as a hot food option for school lunches every day.

We prioritise the well-being and health of our boarders by offering a quality balanced diet that is both nutritious and delicious. It is crucial to instill healthy eating habits in our boarders to ensure they receive the essential nutrients required for their physical and mental development, boosting their energy levels, enhancing concentration, and promoting overall wellness.

Understanding the need for flexibility, we also provide convenient takeaway options to accommodate busy schedules and ensure that our boarders never have to compromise on quality nutrition, no matter their commitments.
