Middle College

Students join Concordia’s Middle College from Year 7 to Year 9. These three years provide a critical link between Junior College to the Senior College.

The middle years are some of the most important in a young person's life. Our Middle College, for students in Years 7 to 9, sits at the heart of our Stephen Street Campus, providing a structured and deeply supportive environment that bridges the Junior College experience with the rigour and independence of Senior College.

While much of our approach remains consistent with the broader Concordia culture, exceptional resources, dedicated staff, and a commitment to lifelong learning, the Middle College introduces important changes that prepare students for the academic challenges ahead. These include working closely with a smaller group of specialist teachers, building genuinely supportive relationships, and introducing elective subjects.

By the end of Year 9, our students leave the Middle College as resilient, independent learners, ready for the Senior College.

Stepping up to Year 7

The transition from primary school to Year 7 is a significant moment, and we make sure it is a positive one. An engaging orientation program begins in Semester 2 of Year 6 and continues into the first week of Year 7, helping students settle in, make friends and feel genuinely at home. Peer mentoring, a strong network of senior student leaders, and dedicated staff are always on hand to support and guide our newest Middle College students.

Wellbeing matters

Our students develop a strong sense of belonging through their Home Class groups, which begin as year-level based in Year 7 before moving into vertical House groups. This means students receive ongoing academic and pastoral support from both staff and older peer mentors throughout their Middle College journey. Regular Home Class meetings, Chapel, Assembly, and House competitions all contribute to a culture where every student is known, valued, and encouraged to grow.

Our Pastoral Care Program, specifically designed for the Middle College years, ensures our students develop the social and emotional skills they need to thrive in secondary education and beyond.
